Fernando Rivas

Fernando Rivas is the founder of Castúo Wines. With a background in medicine, his passion for wine began in 2013, experimenting with his family’s grapes. This love for wine inspired him to explore new products, eventually leading to the production of vermut. He believes that both wine and vermut reflect the unique environment where they are crafted. His goal is to honor the authentic flavors of Extremadura.

Currently, Fernando lives in Copenhagen with his family due to work commitments. However, he frequently travels to Spain to stay connected with his relatives and the winery.

Castuo Wines

Castúo Wines is a winery founded by Fernando Rivas in 2020 in the village of Villalba de los Barros, Badajoz, Spain. Situated in the heart of Extremadura, the winery is surrounded by rolling vineyards and steeped in the region’s rich winemaking traditions.

The winery’s mission is to craft exceptional wines that pay tribute to the indigenous grape varieties of Extremadura and neighboring Portugal. These native grapes, rooted in the region’s unique history, form the foundation of wines that are both authentic and expressive.

The vineyards are farmed organically, promoting soil health and preserving the biodiversity of the land. In the winery, minimal intervention methods are used, allowing the grapes to naturally showcase their true character.

Inspired by the flavors of the region, Castúo Wines seeks to capture the essence of its surroundings. Each bottle reflects the terroir, the climate, and the heritage of Extremadura. 

Production

Our vermut production is rooted in a philosophy of minimal intervention, where nature takes the lead. This approach allows us to honor and preserve the natural qualities of our grapes and botanicals, ensuring that every sip reflects the true essence of our land. By working closely with local farmers and respecting traditional methods, we maintain an authentic connection to our region’s heritage.

To craft our unique vermut, we carefully select and blend native herbs, each chosen for its distinct aroma and flavor. These botanicals, combined with our artisanal techniques, create a vermut that is deeply rooted in tradition yet boldly innovative. The result is a harmonious balance of flavors that speaks to our commitment to quality and authenticity.
